Saunter enables music discovery. We democratize the critic, capturing word-of-mouth from around the world and make it searchable. Think Yelp for music. We believe when taste is involved, the human voice is the most powerful form of discovery. The core of the site is community. A strong community, and the powerful network effect that comes with it, is harder to copy than any feature, data, or marketing campaign. Although we are heavily invested in community, we are equally invested in taking advantage of our unique data. To review and search, we needed a massive database of artists and their meta data. All licensing sucked. It was limited and costly. So we built our own: 2.3 million artists (3x iTunes); weighted tags and related artists (no company has this); 400 music genres and currently adding 2,000 more (3x EchoNest). In a couple months, we are already one of the largest databases in the world and growing every day.
